A thrilling encounter unfolded in the Mustang Cup as changing weather conditions turned the race into a high-stakes tactical battle. Josh Trappett secured his maiden victory in the category after expertly managing wet-weather tyres on a rapidly drying track, holding on during a chaotic and dramatic finish.
The race got underway in tricky wet conditions, with Oli Wickham leading the field away from pole position. However, early drama struck when Wickham was forced wide and dropped to the very back of the pack following contact from Josh Anderson at Turn 9, an incident that later earned the championship leader a 15-second penalty.
As rain stopped and the racing line began to dry out, the strategies and tyre performance shifted dramatically. The Trappett brothers found themselves running at the front of the field, with Pat Trappett leading several laps before handing the position over to Josh as he struggled with front-splitter damage sustained earlier in the race.

Wickham mounted an astonishing recovery charge from the rear of the field, carving his way back through traffic with relentless pace. In the closing stages, Wickham and Brock Stinson were catching the leaders by over five seconds per lap on slick tyres, putting immense pressure on the front-runners.
Wickham eventually sliced past Pat Trappett at Turn 9 with just two laps remaining to snatch second place, crossing the finish line just 0.11 seconds behind the race winner. Stinson claimed the final step of the podium in third, Pat Trappett settled for fourth, and Lee Holdsworth rounded out the top five in his maiden series start.
