Sodden and treacherous track conditions at Sandown failed to hinder Caleb Paterson from capturing a sensational outright pole position. Piloting the #28 Porsche Cayman shared with Kent Quinn, the Silver-Am contender delivered a masterclass performance.
The Queenslander clocked a stellar lap time of 1m19.6448s amidst difficult wet weather to finish 0.43 seconds clear of Lachlan Evennett, who steered his #88 Toyota Supra to second place.
"I’m over the moon! That’s awesome. The boys gave me such a great car just then, we were praying for rain all night last night," a delighted Paterson said after the session.

"I think my toes must be webbed, because whenever it’s wet I always seem to shine. Man, that was so much fun out there, I had an absolute ball. I just got track position and went for it, just kept going faster and faster."
The session was heavily impacted by the elements as severe weather rolled in just before the opening qualifying run. Lightning strikes around the venue forced a 20-minute delay before the rain finally subsided, leaving behind a heavily soaked and challenging circuit.
Early drama quickly unfolded when Am Cup contender Ryan Sorensen slid into the gravel trap at the final complex during his first flying lap, prompting a red flag within the opening five minutes of the track action.
Meanwhile, Method Motorsport's championship leader Tom Hayman struggled to find confidence in the wet conditions following his strong pace in Practice 2. Managing only 11th overall, Hayman and co-driver Jett Murray faced an uphill battle.
However, when Qualifying 2 commenced for Sunday's grid with rain clearing but the track remaining soaked, Murray rebounded in style. Taking over the #25 championship-leading machine, Murray clinched pole position with a solid 1m20.0668s lap time.
