The Walter Hayes Trophy kicked off at a foggy Silverstone on Saturday morning with Jordan Dempsey taking pole position for heat one.
On the short National layout, there were 26 cars packed tightly on track, with visibility and track conditions posing a severe challenge due to a receding layer of fog. Driving for B-M Racing, Dempsey was fastest right from the off, leading Ammonite Motorsport's Hugh Esterson with his very first flying lap.
The competition intensified as Alex Ames, piloting a 36-year-old Van Diemen RF90, went fastest next time by with a 1m03.384s lap, narrowly edging out Wayne Poole Racing's Josh Fisher by a mere 0.004s, while Dempsey failed to improve and temporarily dropped down to eighth position.

However, Dempsey's persistence paid off as he gradually lowered the benchmark. He posted the first sub-1m02s lap of the day with a 1m01.941s effort, before ultimately securing the top spot with a stellar lap time of 1m01.560s as the qualifying session reached its dramatic conclusion.
Behind the polesitter, Hugh Esterson finished second, 0.452s adrift, with Josh Fisher claiming third place, while George Quartermaine and Mikel Bezuidenhout rounded out the top five positions on the grid.
