Joan Mir pulled off one of the major surprises during Friday's opening sessions at the Malaysian Grand Prix by securing a direct pass into Q2 after missing the last four rounds.
The Honda rider finished inside the top ten during practice at Sepang, marking an incredible comeback to the premier class grid following physical struggles that sidelined him since September.
The 2020 world champion admitted he never expected to be immediately competitive after enduring vision problems and extreme fatigue which forced him to sit out races in Austria, Japan, Indonesia, and Australia.

Speaking to collaborator Manuel Pecino, the Spaniard expressed sheer delight at the unexpected result, calling it a true reward for all the grueling recovery work he put in during his lengthy absence.
However, alongside his triumphant return to the front runners, the major factory rider issued a stark warning regarding the asphalt conditions at the Malaysian venue, stating it is dangerously close to the limit.
According to Motosan.es, he emphasized that grip and safety on the current track surface require urgent attention from officials as weekend sessions progress.
With a refreshed mental state and renewed confidence in his machine setup, he now looks forward to evaluating his physical stamina over the remainder of the Grand Prix weekend.
