The opening day of practice at the Sepang circuit may have looked underwhelming on paper for Marco Bezzecchi, but the Italian rider instead hailed it as a fantastic Friday after securing sixth place on the timesheets in Practice.
Having won five races this year, finishing sixth in the session is technically below his own high standards. However, a difficult weekend in Malaysia last year made this season's start a much more encouraging experience for the Aprilia Racing star.
Last year saw him struggle to an 11th-place finish in the grand prix, marking one of his rare non-podium results in the latter half of the season. Therefore, finishing within half a second of the benchmark time set by Marc Marquez gave him plenty of reasons to remain optimistic.

A fantastic Friday, compared to last year, said Marco Bezzecchi when speaking to Sky Sport Italy. He acknowledged that while his race pace felt strong and competitive, he struggled slightly more during the time attack due to minor riding mistakes.
Looking ahead to the upcoming races, Bezzecchi pointed out that the main threats would come not only from the Marquez brothers, but also from the likes of Fabio Di Giannantonio and Pedro Acosta who have shown impressive pace.
