Joan Mir Admits Marc Marquez Has World Title Within Reach As Rivals Crack Under Pressure

The intense battle for the premier class motorcycle racing world championship has reached its most critical phase. Marc Marquez has solidified his position at the summit of the standings following an impressive run of form in the latter half of the season. The dominant display from the Spanish superstar has drawn candid remarks from fellow compatriot and Honda HRC factory rider Joan Mir, who openly analyzed his rival's mental strength.

According to reports from Motosan.es, the Mallorcan rider believes that the eight-time world champion is currently operating with exceptional psychological maturity. The high level of consistency shown on track has left his closest pursuers struggling to cope with the relentless points gap. Mir points out that technical superiority combined with sheer composure remains the ultimate differentiating factor.

"I see Marc is very focused on what he has to do, without making mistakes," Joan Mir stated while evaluating the championship leader's performance. "Personally, I think he has the title well within reach, because the others are not being able to withstand his pressure," he added, emphasizing his rival's dominance.

Aside from discussing the championship fight at the front, the 2020 world champion also shared insights regarding his own challenging race weekend in Sepang. Starting from the middle pack brought unique hurdles for the Japanese manufacturer's rider, particularly dealing with front tire pressure and aerodynamics while running deep inside a long train of bikes.

"I was in that middle group, knowing that this is a circuit where normally nothing happens. It's like a long train and, the further back you are, the more difficulties you have with the front end when braking and with everything else," Mir explained concerning the tough race conditions.

The race dynamic shifted when dark clouds loomed over the circuit. Capitalizing on his position outside the title contention, Mir elected to take a bold gamble by pitting for a bike change as early raindrops appeared on the asphalt.

"I started to see that the sky was quite dark and it started to rain at turn four. Then I thought: 'Maybe today is the time to take a risky decision, because we are not fighting for anything.' I took the risk, but it didn't work out. The rain didn't arrive until the final lap, so it wasn't the right moment, although in these situations you never know," he reflected on the failed strategic gamble.
