Intense racing action heated up the tarmac as Jason Smyth claimed a hard-fought victory in the first Walter Hayes Trophy semi-final. The Team Dolan driver had to pull off every ounce of racecraft to fend off pole-sitter Jordan Dempsey in a nail-biting finish that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.
Right from the opening corner, the leading duo traded places and controlled a packed train of cars through the first lap. Dempsey made his initial bid for the lead into Maggotts on lap three, before executing a brilliant move around the outside of Smyth at Brooklands a lap later, forcing a quick defensive response from the chasing pack.
Smyth clawed his way back to the front down the Wellington Straight on lap five after Dempsey suffered a brief lock-up at Brooklands. Meanwhile, a fierce multi-car battle ignited behind them, featuring stellar wheel-to-wheel combat involving Hugh Esterson and Josh Fisher as they fought fiercely for crucial positions.

Attention was also firmly fixed on the remarkable charge from Chris Middlehurst. Starting way back in 25th following his earlier progression race heroics, the resilient driver carved through the field with surgical precision to secure an incredible fifth-place finish at the checkered flag.
As the race drew to a close, Dempsey used the slipstream to close the gap on the final lap, but Smyth successfully defended his ground through heavy traffic to win by a razor-thin margin of 0.156 seconds, with top contenders saving their fresh rubber for the grand final.
