Max Verstappen will make his debut in the World GT series

The motorsport world is gearing up for one of the most anticipated showdowns of the year as Max Verstappen and Valentino Rossi share the track together. This epic clash takes place at the 2026 GT World Challenge Europe season finale held at the Algarve International Circuit near Portimao, Portugal. The presence of these two legends from different disciplines has instantly captured the attention of global racing fans.

The four-time Formula 1 world champion is making his GT World Challenge Europe debut following a demanding stretch of Grands Prix. The Dutch superstar is getting behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT3 under the Verstappen Racing banner. He shares driving duties alongside teammates Chris Lulham and Ben Barnicoat for the grueling three-hour endurance race in Portimao.

The weekend grid features a massive 61-car entry list, setting the stage for an intense battle. Among the elite field is the legendary nine-time grand prix motorcycle champion, who is piloting a BMW machine for Team WRT. This marks the first time ever that the two motorsport greats will race directly against each other on the same track.

For Verstappen, participating in this event means he is competing for seven consecutive weekends. The GT World Challenge Europe season-closer falls precisely on his only free weekend situated strictly between two demanding F1 triple-headers, showcasing his relentless dedication to racing.

Looking ahead to racing against the Italian motorcycle icon, Verstappen shared his excitement and expectations for the weekend. I hope I get to see him, the Dutchman said. He is a very cool guy, so I hope to catch up with him. I mean, it is nice, but I do not hope to see him in the race, so that is normally a good sign. I actually hope to see no one, to be just up front and do a good job. But you never know. The grid is super competitive, so I am just looking forward to the challenge. It is very different to Formula 1, but I love it. I mean, I had my first taste already this year at the Nordschleife, and Portimao is a very cool track to drive. So I am just going to enjoy it and, of course, as a team, we will try to do the best we can to get a good result out of it.

Meanwhile, the MotoGP great expressed his amazement at sharing the asphalt with the dominant F1 champion during an interview with Sky Sport Italy. It is going to be amazing, he stated. I mean, it will be a big problem because he is sure to be incredibly fast, but it will be fantastic. I have to say, I never imagined I would be racing towards Max Verstappen. So it is great, it will be great for everyone to have him there, and I hope I get the chance to follow him and see how he drives.

Fans across the globe eager to watch this historic battle can stream the entire event entirely for free. The GT World Challenge Europe weekend in Portimao will be broadcasted live and in multiple languages directly on the official GTWorld YouTube channel.
