Davide Brivio is reportedly in discussions with Honda regarding a potential senior strategic consultancy role for the manufacturer’s MotoGP 2027 project. The reports emerge as Honda prepares for the introduction of MotoGP’s new 850cc regulations beginning in the 2027 season.

According to Sky Italia, Brivio would take on a role focused on strategic vision and overall organisational structure within Honda Racing Corporation. Alberto Puig is expected to remain in place as HRC team manager if the project moves forward.

The report also stated that Brivio would join a programme where several key sporting and technical decisions have already been made. Honda is believed to have already defined the early development direction of its future 850cc machine along with parts of its rider structure for the next regulation cycle.

Despite that, Honda reportedly views Brivio as a key figure capable of rebuilding the organisational foundations required to return the manufacturer to the front of MotoGP competition. His extensive experience managing factory racing programmes is considered one of the main reasons behind HRC’s interest.

Brivio first gained major recognition during his time with Valentino Rossi at Yamaha, where he helped oversee four MotoGP world titles for the Italian rider. He later managed Suzuki’s return to MotoGP and guided the Japanese manufacturer to the 2020 riders’ championship with Joan Mir.

After leaving Suzuki, Brivio spent several seasons in Formula 1 before returning to MotoGP through the new Trackhouse Racing project with Aprilia in 2024. Under his leadership, Trackhouse secured its first MotoGP victory with Raul Fernandez at Phillip Island last season.

If the Honda move eventually materialises, HRC would become the fourth MotoGP manufacturer in Brivio’s career. His arrival could also trigger significant changes within Honda’s management structure after several difficult seasons in which the manufacturer has struggled to return to consistent front-running competitiveness.

Honda is currently entering a major transition phase ahead of the 2027 technical regulation changes. Alongside development of the new 850cc engine project, HRC is also believed to be evaluating the possibility of expanding its MotoGP bike presence on the grid under the next rules cycle.

Although neither side has officially confirmed the discussions, the Brivio reports suggest Honda is actively exploring a new organisational approach as it attempts to accelerate its recovery in MotoGP.
