Honda has officially announced a change in the technical leadership of its Formula 1 program. Yoichiro Fukao has been promoted to Large Project Manager, succeeding Tetsushi Kakuda, who previously led Power Unit development. The change takes effect on October 1, a strategic move made amid a challenging 2026 season for Honda and its partner, Aston Martin.
The decision comes after a series of disappointing results. Honda's Power Unit this season has been not only uncompetitive but also plagued by reliability issues. Pressure from the public and the team forced Honda to act quickly. Since the Dutch GP, they introduced the latest engine specification, SPEC 2, in an effort to improve performance.
