The future of the FFSA hangs in the balance following the release of a comprehensive final report by France’s General Inspectorate for Education, Sport and Research. The decisive regulatory procedure was initiated after authorities spent over six months investigating the governance and financial administration of the national motorsport governing body. As one of the most prominent motorsport federations globally, the organization has historically nurtured top-tier talent, including legendary WRC icons Sebastien Loeb and Sebastien Ogier.

The root of the controversy traces back to the presidential election held on 23 April. The vote resulted in Pierre Ragues securing a two-year presidential term after his predecessor, Pierre Gosselin, faced a motion of no confidence. Disputing the outcome, Gosselin took his case to the French Olympic Committee. The mediation body uncovered clear evidence of rule breaches, triggering a rigorous six-month government inspection that exposed profound structural failures within the institution.

Investigators identified severe non-compliance with French sports law, severe transparency issues regarding operational practices, and a distinct lack of accountability in handling public funds. Ferrari confirmed the ongoing administrative measures while highlighting a challenging working environment and considerable distress among staff members. Extensive discussions under multiple successive sports ministers had previously urged the organization to amend its bylaws, yet internal regulations continue to fall short of legal mandates.

Furthermore, the inspection report highlights potential conflicts of interest within the leadership structure. Despite the gravity of the ongoing 15-day administrative procedure, the governing body currently continues its routine operations while awaiting the final verdict. Ministry officials emphasized that the intervention aims to correct structural flaws rather than dismantle the sport, with Ferrari noting, “The aim is not to dismantle motorsport, but to put things right.”

Should the state ultimately withdraw its official recognition, the consequences for French racing would be severe. The federation would forfeit its authority over national championships, face an immediate freeze on public funding, and jeopardize the issuance of next year’s competition licenses alongside official circuit homologations.
