Britain is gearing up for an exceptionally busy year on the international rally scene following a wave of positive developments regarding championship calendars. According to Motorsport News, six out of the seven rounds held in 2026 will remain firmly anchored within the European Rally Championship (ERC) next season. This continuity provides crucial long-term stability for regional rally competitions, ensuring that fans and competitors alike can look forward to another thrilling campaign across iconic European stages.

The global rallying landscape is also experiencing notable shifts as Rally di Roma Capitale transitions to the WRC under the banner of Rally d’Italia. Consequently, the Sardinian rally—which served as the season finale for the WRC this year—will take its place on the ERC calendar. The inclusion of Sardinia expands the gravel rally count from two to three events, alongside Sweden’s Royal Rally of Scandinavia and Portugal’s Rally 6 Cities North of Portugal.

Meanwhile, the organizers of Rali Ceredigion in Wales have yet to issue an official confirmation regarding their future status. However, inside sources indicate that the event is strongly positioned to secure a lucrative new multi-year agreement. The alignment between local stakeholders and ERC decision-makers highlights a mutually beneficial partnership, securing financial viability for the Welsh promoters while maintaining a high-profile British presence in the championship.

The appeal of the local stages remains a major talking point among motorsport insiders, who praise the technical challenges and competitive environment. "There is a lot of interest in the local area and plenty of support as well. The ERC decision-makers want a round in Britain, while the Ceredigion organisers need the ERC to make the event financially viable. It is therefore a very good situation for everyone involved," a source stated. Organizers are optimistic that these factors will attract an even larger contingent of international crews from across Europe in upcoming editions.

The competitive standard of British events was recently underscored when Kris Meeke triumphed in the Welsh round, holding off a fierce challenge from Teemu Suninen. Should the continuation of the Welsh round receive official ratification, it will further cement Britain's status as a premier hub for international rallying, complemented by Scotland's upcoming WRC hosting duties next year.
