Intense action kicked off at Mount Panorama as the Dunlop Super2 Series commenced its opening practice sessions on Thursday. Ben Gomersall set the pace during the second practice session, posting a blistering lap time despite significantly hotter track temperatures.
Driving the Tickford Autosport Ford Mustang GT, Ben Gomersall clocked a leading time of 2:06.2363, putting 0.1202 seconds between himself and Jonathon Webb in the Anderson Motorsport entry at the end of the day.
The battle at the sharp end of the field remained fiercely competitive throughout the afternoon. Brad Vaughan of Brad Jones Racing secured third position, followed by Lochie Dalton representing Blanchard Racing Team in fourth, and Reuben Goodall rounding out the top five.

However, the sessions were punctuated by dramatic incidents and red flags. Matt Hillyer drew the first red flag less than eight minutes into the opening running when he locked up at Hell Corner and beached his car in the gravel. Shortly after the resumption, a second red flag was deployed when Ayrton Hodson lost control at Skyline and slammed heavily into the concrete wall.
Earlier in the day, Thursday morning's opening practice session had been paced by Lochie Dalton with a lap time of 2:07.2569. Despite the afternoon's higher ambient and track temperatures, the overall benchmark times dropped significantly as drivers pushed the limits.
