Nathan Gomersall completed a perfect Sunday at Winton Raceway with a back-to-back race win, leading home Alice Buckley by 1.1 seconds. The Ford Mustang #32 driver controlled the race from start to finish, cementing his dominance at the Victorian circuit after also winning the earlier Sunday race.
The race was intense from the outset. Gomersall seized the lead at Turn 1, while Buckley had to fight hard to hold off Tyler Cheney for second. An early incident saw Tommy Smith run off track and drop to sixth, promoting Brock Paine and Hayden Hume to fourth and fifth.
Further back, Des Collier made contact with Jackson Rice at the final corner, damaging the front bodywork of the TFH entry. However, the spotlight was on the battle for the top 10 between Joel Heinrich and Domain Ramsay, with Heinrich on a recovery charge.
The safety car was deployed when debutant Ayce Buckley ground to a halt on the back straight with an engine issue. Buckley had been impressive all weekend, running in the top five in every race, making this a bitter end to a standout debut.
After the restart, Gomersall pulled away again, while Buckley held off Cheney, who faded in the closing laps. Smith settled for sixth, ahead of Heinrich, Robbie Farr, Rice, and Ramsay rounding out the top 10.
With this result, Alice Buckley maintains a one-point championship lead over Gomersall heading into the season finale at Phillip Island on November 20-22. The title fight is heating up, and Winton proved that Gomersall will not go down without a fight.
