George Russell has finally shed light on the intense off-track hurdles he faced behind the scenes during his brilliant victory at the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix. That triumph successfully broke a long streak of bad luck that had frequently plagued the British driver around the demanding night street circuit.
The 2026 season, however, has unfolded through a drastically different narrative for the Silver Arrows driver. Despite high hopes that the fresh technical regulations would elevate him to the front of the grid early on, his teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli has instead stormed ahead to command a healthy margin at the top of the championship standings.
This year's Singapore race weekend proved to be another punishing chapter for Russell, who crashed out during the sprint race before fighting back to salvage a ninth-place finish on Sunday. The sharp contrast in fortunes prompted deep reflections when revisiting his past glories during a recent media appearance.

While reviewing photographs of his 2025 celebrations alongside his partner Carmen Mundt during an interview with Austrian broadcaster ORF Sport, Russell hinted at profound hidden layers. "I mean, it was a very special weekend because there were a lot going on behind the scenes that not many people know about," the Brit explained regarding the emotional weight of those images.
Asked if he would elaborate further on the exact nature of the struggles, he simply replied, "No, one day." He elaborated on the psychological toll, stating, "Psychologically, my brain was quite busy; then going out, putting it on pole, winning the race, was a really special moment and having Carmen there as well."}
"Why these photos and this moment were so important to me is because she was there through those moments off the track that I was dealing with, so this is the part that people don’t see," Russell concluded. Now locked in an intra-team battle under the Mercedes banner, those resilient traits continue to shape his ongoing 2026 campaign.
