Fourmaux Determined to Win Before Rally1 Era Ends

Adrien Fourmaux is still searching for his maiden World Rally Championship victory, and he's desperate to achieve it before the Rally1 era comes to a close. The Hyundai driver has 11 podiums under his belt, but the top step has eluded him so far.

With at least three – or four if Rally Saudi Arabia stays on the calendar – rallies remaining in the Rally1 era, Fourmaux knows this is his last shot to win with these incredible machines. He even likened his desire to that of Group B drivers in 1986, who knew slower Group A cars were coming.

“That's in the plan, because I don't want to leave this car with no win,” Fourmaux told DirtFish. “They're such brilliant cars that I would like to say I've also been a winner in this cars. It's like in the past when they were leaving the Group B, they wanted to have at least one win with the Group B car.”

Despite the pressure, he remains grateful for his growth with the Rally1 car. “Even if it's not happening, I will be pleased with what I've achieved and how I grew up with this because it's a huge step from the Rally2. So, yeah, it's been positive,” he reflected.

Fourmaux believes his best opportunity lies at Rally Paraguay in three weeks. “I think Paraguay is probably the best. The pace I had was very, very good. I was leading the rally until the puncture. Then I was second. Hopefully I had the rain in Finland, not in Paraguay, and then I'm clear,” he said.

In Finland, he lost 1m29.8s due to rain on SS7 and finished fourth, 1m35.9s behind winner Sami Pajari. “If you look at the end, we are 1 minute 35 behind and we lost 1 minute 25 on the rain. That's clear. But that's the hard life of motorsport. Sometimes you give everything, but if you miss a little bit somewhere, it's the full package,” he explained.

Still, he's satisfied with his Finland performance. “I'm very pleased, I have no regrets. I gave everything on the powerstage and tried my best to get maximum points we could with what we have, which I think we did well,” he concluded.
