In a surprising twist, Australia's Formula Ford Championship has pulled out of AASA after just one season, opting instead to align with the reborn Hi-Tec Oils Super Series.

The announcement came from Phil Marrinon, administrator of the Formula Ford Association (FFA), who confirmed the split is effective immediately. “The FFA has formally severed our agreement with AASA, effective immediately,” Marrinon stated.

Marrinon emphasized that the decision was made in the best interest of the category and its competitors, ensuring they receive the best possible coverage. “We have secured a position for the 2026 Yokohama Formula Ford Championship at the Winton Hi-Tec Oils Super Series round on 25-27 September,” he added.

The national Formula Ford championship was revived under AASA governance this year, but ongoing turmoil—triggered by the departure of former series promoter and title sponsor Hi-Tec Oils—has prompted a wave of categories to exit. Formula RX8 was first, followed by TA2 Muscle Car Series, Legend Cars Australia, and Australian IRC Racing Series.

Formula Ford's exit is a significant blow to AASA, as the category is a cornerstone of Australian national racing. However, it provides a major boost to the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series, which was thought to be defunct but is now staging a comeback.

Marrinon also hinted at more rounds to come: “More rounds will be added to our calendar as we continue to discuss options with various promoters.” This suggests the series will expand beyond Winton.

The decision will undoubtedly send ripples through the paddock. Drivers must adapt to a new calendar, while AASA faces the challenge of filling the void. For motorsport fans, it sets the stage for an intriguing 2026 season.
