Kimi Antonelli stamped his authority in the hot Sepang conditions by topping the final practice session with a breathtaking late flying lap.
The young charger unleashed a stellar 1m36.302s effort on fresh soft tyres in the dying minutes, leaving him 0.278s clear of Max Verstappen at the chequered flag. The session had earlier seen a brief red flag period following debris originating from Oliver Bearman's car at Turn 10.
Once green flag running resumed, the times tumbled as teams rolled out their qualifying simulations. Isack Hadjar briefly stunned the paddock by jumping to provisional pole before Antonelli and Verstappen responded emphatically.

Mercedes enjoyed a strong morning overall, with George Russell rounding out the top four behind the leading duo and putting down a solid marker ahead of the all-important grid decider.
Further down the order, Franco Colapinto carved out a respectable ninth place for Alpine ahead of Arvid Lindblad, setting the stage for a tense qualifying hour.
