The long-term future of Rally Sweden is hanging in the balance as the operating company, Rally Sweden AB, faces a severe financial crisis and the looming threat of bankruptcy. According to investigative reports, the organization has accumulated a staggering deficit of around 16 million kronor, roughly equivalent to i1.5 million, prompting independent auditors to intervene and put a definitive halt to questionable accounting practices. For multiple consecutive seasons, grants and funding awarded to the rally had been routinely redirected to cover previous years' operational losses.

This precarious situation has drawn strong criticism and led to high-profile resignations within the organization. Peggy Dicksdotter Hermansson and Janne Rydh officially stepped down from the company’s board of directors as well as the board of the Swedish Automobile Sports Federation (SBF). They candidly admitted that the board lacked sufficient corporate management expertise, pointing out that the reported 16 million kronor deficit within the WRC calendar mainstay is entirely unreasonable.

Elaborating on the federation funds, Peggy Dicksdotter Hermansson strongly criticized the allocation of resources. "The federation represents 16 motorsport disciplines. It is a sporting organisation, and one discipline cannot be favoured in a way that leaves the others paying its costs. The line has to be drawn somewhere," she stated, highlighting how cross-subsidization unfairly burdened other motorsport branches in the country.

The company board has effectively spiraled into a leadership vacuum following a steady stream of departures, leaving chief executive Anna Nordkvist as its sole remaining member. Despite the crippling financial turmoil and internal board crisis, the newly released world rally championship calendar still confirms the event's traditional slot as the second round of the season in February.

Meanwhile, intense scrutiny surrounds the 14.5 million kronor annual funding provided by the Umea municipality. Investigations revealed that advance grant installments intended for upcoming events had already vanished to settle legacy debts left behind by previous editions. With auditors forcing a correction that drastically escalated the official deficit figures, radical structural reforms are now mandatory to save the historic snow rally from total collapse.
