Ahead of the final stretch of the season, Charles Leclerc has confirmed that Formula 1 drivers are prepared to follow the lead of their MotoGP counterparts and discuss potential concerns regarding racing in the Middle East. The shifting geopolitical landscape has brought safety and security back to the forefront of discussions within the motorsport community as the championship heads toward its final grands prix.

Prior to the cancelled weekend at Phillip Island due to severe weather conditions and unsafe medical helicopter operations, 22 riders staged an unprecedented meeting to address the brewing situation surrounding the upcoming event in Qatar. Driven by growing uncertainty from regional tensions and the looming threat of conflict escalation between Iran and the United States, competitors expressed genuine worries regarding the well-being of everyone in the paddock.

These talks subsequently carried over to the Malaysian Grand Prix weekend at Sepang, featuring further dialogues between riders, team managers, and MotoGP CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta. While athletes opted to keep their public statements measured, the underlying unity among the grid has reached an all-time high as they navigate these unprecedented off-track complications under the commercial umbrella of Liberty Media.

When questioned on whether similar conversations would transpire within the Grand Prix Drivers' Association ahead of F1's visits to Qatar and Abu Dhabi, Ferrari's leading man acknowledged that it remains an inevitable talking point. Leclerc stated that it is certainly something that will emerge during their meetings, noting that although formal discussions within the GPDA have been limited so far, it will occupy a spot on their priority list.

Echoing these sentiments during the FIA press conference ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix, local favorite Sergio Perez expressed that the MotoGP riders were completely justified in raising these safety inquiries. Highlighting the fluid nature of international politics, Perez pointed out that circumstances can shift drastically from one day to the next, reinforcing the importance of proper risk assessment handled by the relevant authorities.
