Championship leader Marc Marquez set the pace during the Practice session at the Malaysian Grand Prix, overcoming an early crash to secure the top spot at Sepang. The factory Ducati rider posted a benchmark lap of 1m57.000s, demonstrating superior speed and resilience throughout the demanding one-hour session.
The day was heavily impacted by the dramatic withdrawal of title contender Jorge Martin. Having fractured his wrist in a previous crash at Phillip Island and cleared to ride on Thursday, the Aprilia rider managed only a few minutes on track before suffering a scare at Turn 12, prompting him to box and sit out the remainder of the session.
Marquez himself faced adversity 16 minutes into the hour when he fell at the final corner. Although he escaped injury, the spill left him restricted to a single bike for the duration of the practice. Capitalizing on the competitive field, Alex Marquez secured the second-fastest time for Gresini Ducati, finishing just 0.109s behind his brother.

As the session entered its final 15 minutes and riders switched to fresh soft rubber, the times tumbled. Ai Ogura delivered a strong performance to finish third for Aprilia, ahead of Pedro Acosta and Fabio Di Giannantonio. Di Giannantonio had earlier set the initial benchmark in the 1m57s bracket during the opening minutes.
Meanwhile, Pecco Bagnaia struggled to 12th place following a late crash, condemning the factory Ducati rider to a Q2 elimination threat alongside Jorge Martin in Q1. Conversely, Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini secured direct progression into Q2, rounding out a dramatic day of action.
