F1 2026 Constructors: Mercedes Extends Lead After Zandvoort Sprint

When the lights went out at Zandvoort for the F1 2026 Sprint, Mercedes once again showed their teeth. The German manufacturer successfully widened the gap to Ferrari in the constructors' standings, thanks to a 13-point haul from the sprint race held at the Dutch circuit.

In the short yet intense sprint, George Russell and his teammate performed consistently at the front. Meanwhile, Ferrari had to settle for second place with Charles Leclerc and seventh with Lewis Hamilton. This result made the Scuderia lose four more points to Mercedes, making the gap at the top increasingly prominent.

McLaren, who this season has often been a fierce rival, managed to secure 10 valuable points through solid performances from Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. However, they still trail quite far behind the top two teams. Red Bull could only bring home three points, a sign that Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen have yet to find their ideal rhythm at Zandvoort.

Alpine managed to grab one extra point, now just four points behind Racing Bulls. The battle in the midfield is predicted to heat up as the season progresses. Every point feels precious, and moments like this sprint could be decisive in the championship race.

With the lead continuing to widen, the pressure is now on Ferrari to turn things around. But the road is still long. Can they close the gap in the upcoming rounds? We'll just have to wait for the main Grand Prix, where strategy and consistency will be tested again.
