Carmelo Ezpeleta, the top boss of MotoGP, has spoken out about the new 850cc era set to hit the track next season. During the Aragon Grand Prix, he confirmed that the early impressions from riders on the new bikes are very promising.
However, the head of Dorna is cautious not to over-speculate. According to him, any regulation change always sparks curiosity, especially regarding the performance that will be shown on the racetrack.
MotorLand and the Future of Reserve Circuits
The MotorLand Aragon circuit is in the spotlight after a deal with the Aragon Government secured the race until 2027. However, from 2028, the circuit will transition to a reserve circuit role.
Ezpeleta described the current relationship with the regional government as excellent. Even so, he emphasized that the status change is part of a mutual agreement to ensure a more flexible racing calendar.
He also praised MotorLand as one of the best circuits on the calendar. Modern facilities, a well-maintained track, and a competitive atmosphere make every visit to Alcaniz feel like racing at home.
Fierce Competition and the Arrival of Liberty Media
On the other hand, Ezpeleta highlighted the intensifying competition this season. The resurgence of Marc Marquez, Marco Bezzecchi's impressive form, and Raul Fernandez's surprises were cited as ingredients making MotoGP more exciting.
Not to mention, the arrival of Liberty Media as the new owner adds heat to discussions about the future direction of the championship. Although not saying much yet, Ezpeleta stressed that all changes are designed to make MotoGP more competitive and entertaining.
