Marc Marquez has taken the lead in the 2026 MotoGP championship for the first time, but Ducati insists he is not the favourite. Team manager Davide Tardozzi stressed that the title fight is far from over.
Marquez completed a double at Misano, securing his fifth win of the season. He capitalised on Jorge Martin's arm pump issue and Marco Bezzecchi's crash to move to the top of the standings. Though level on points with Martin, Marquez leads due to more wins.
Tardozzi downplayed the lead, saying: "There are no favourites at the moment. The championship will go down to the wire." He acknowledged Aprilia's speed at certain tracks and emphasised the need to maximise points when not the fastest.
Ducati also leads the constructors' championship by two points over Aprilia. Tardozzi praised Marquez's experience and trust in him. "We trust Marc in every situation," he said.
Marquez described leading the championship as "unreal" given his injury struggles. With eight races left, both rider and team remain focused on maintaining their momentum.
