Fabio di Giannantonio is set to make his final appearance for VR46 at their home race in Misano this weekend. After three seasons with the Tavullia-based squad, the Italian will move to factory KTM in 2027.
This farewell could not be more fitting, as Misano lies just 13km from VR46's headquarters. A strong result here would not only provide a sweet send-off but also halt his recent slide in the championship standings.
Di Giannantonio has lost ground to title leader Jorge Martin over the last four rounds, with his last Sunday podium coming from victory at Barcelona. He now sits fourth, 48 points adrift, while reigning champion Marc Marquez has emerged as Ducati's leading contender.
However, with nine rounds still to go, 333 points remain on the table—and di Giannantonio is determined to make the most of them.
High Spirits at Home
“We’re really fired up for Misano!” said di Giannantonio. “It’s our home race, and we have to push as hard as possible. Racing in front of our home crowd, with family and friends here, always gives you that extra motivation to do even better.”
He also recalled strong data from last year, when he finished third in the Sprint and fifth in the main race, just behind teammate Franco Morbidelli. “We arrive in Misano with some very good data from last year. That will certainly make our job easier, but the feedback from Aragon could also be useful, even though it wasn’t an easy one,” he added.
Morbidelli, meanwhile, will make his final VR46 and MotoGP appearance before moving to WorldSBK in 2027. “Misano is always amazing, the atmosphere is magical and the home crowd is always special. The goal will be to have a clean weekend,” said Morbidelli.
Next season, VR46 will field an all-new line-up with Fermin Aldeguer and Nicolo Bulega. For now, though, all eyes are on Misano as the two Italians look to close this chapter in style.
