Dani Sordo is set to take on a pivotal role in developing the new WRC car from RMC Motorsport. The Spanish squad is building a WRC27 machine to compete in next year's world championship.

RMC Motorsport, led by Roberto Mendez, is working with Spain's motorsport federation (RFEDA) to create a team named WRT Rally1 Spain. Their car is expected to undergo its first tests in the near future.

Mendez revealed that the car will use the same engine as the Citroen C3 Rally2 and Lancia Ypsilon HF, with an X-Trac gearbox similar to the one used by Skoda. The bodywork design is still in progress, with hopes of an unveiling within a month.

Notably, Sordo, a seasoned WRC veteran with 196 starts and three victories, will serve as the development driver. The 43-year-old has been competing part-time for Hyundai this year.

"Dani Sordo will be our development driver for the car, and he'll compete in whichever rallies he wants to do," Mendez stated. If the calendar aligns, the car's competitive debut could happen in the spring at Rally Islas Canarias.

RMC Motorsport is also required to sell cars to other private teams. Mendez has been surprised by the level of interest, with seven or eight drivers showing serious intent to place orders.
