Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Christian Horner is reportedly working towards a return to the Formula 1 paddock eight months after departing Red Bull Racing, with the former team principal said to be seeking only a competitive project.

Horner, who oversaw six constructors’ championships during his two-decade tenure at Red Bull, left the Milton Keynes-based outfit in July 2025 following an internal power struggle. The 52-year-old has since indicated that any comeback would need to involve a meaningful strategic partnership role rather than a conventional executive position.

One potential destination is Alpine, where Horner is reportedly part of a consortium engaged in discussions with MSP Sports Capital. With Alpine navigating structural and performance transitions under the 2026 regulations, an experienced leadership figure could play a role in shaping long-term competitiveness.

Speculation has also extended to Ferrari. Although Ferrari chairman John Elkann has publicly expressed support for current team principal Fred Vasseur, rumours continue amid heightened expectations in Maranello.

The ongoing conjecture has drawn reactions from Ferrari’s driver line-up. Lewis Hamilton described the speculation as a distraction, while Charles Leclerc voiced frustration over persistent uncertainty surrounding the team’s leadership structure.

Former Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya has suggested Ferrari should consider Horner given his track record of building championship-winning operations.

There has been no official confirmation from any of the parties involved. However, as Formula 1 continues its transition into the new regulatory era, the prospect of Horner’s return represents a significant subplot in the evolving competitive and managerial landscape of the 2026 season.
