Former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has disclosed that his former outfit reached out via telephone to thank him for his foundational contribution to their maiden Formula 1 victory with an in-house power unit at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Horner guided the team from their debut in 2005 until his departure midway through the 2025 season. During his tenure, he oversaw their rise to four consecutive constructors' and drivers' titles with Sebastian Vettel between 2010 and 2013, a dominant feat later replicated alongside Max Verstappen from 2021 to 2024.
Beyond chassis supremacy, Horner spearheaded the creation of Red Bull Powertrains to develop the Ford-backed engine following Honda's announcement to withdraw from the sport at the end of 2020. This start-up venture was built on the philosophy of attracting top engineering talent and empowering them to push technological boundaries for the 2026 technical regulations.
Speaking at the Autosport Business Exchange, Horner revealed that leadership contacted him to acknowledge his vital role in delivering that historic victory. He expressed profound pride in seeing the power plant develop and perform, noting the immense sweat and tears invested by every man and woman involved in the ambitious engine project from its inception.
Reflecting on the gesture, Horner expressed gratitude to the shareholders and CEO Oliver Mintzlaff for reaching out to express their appreciation, describing it as a vastly different conversation compared to the one they shared fifteen months prior.
