Burchartz clean swept the Formula Ford Australia weekend at Winton with dominant victories in Race 3 and Race 4, propelling himself back into championship contention. Drama unfolded in Race 4 when he and Wickham collided on the opening lap, but both recovered to finish 1-2.
Race 3: Comfortable Win
Burchartz continued his dominant weekend to win Race 3 comfortably, leading home Oli Wickham by 4.8 seconds. Wickham held on despite a lengthy battle with Isaac Demellweek, who settled for third, while Sam March came home in fourth, and Hunter Salvatore rounded out the top five.
Will Lowing charged through from the rear to finish seventh, overcoming gearbox problems that resulted in a tough day on Saturday. Lachlan Mineeff and Brad James both encountered issues and failed to finish, while Jett Leicester did not take the start after damage sustained on Saturday.
Race 4: Drama and Recovery
Race 4 on Sunday afternoon was an intense, action-packed affair from start to finish. Burchartz took the win to sweep the weekend, however on Lap 1 that looked like a very different story. He and Wickham came together at the Turn 1-2 switchback on the opening lap, sending the pair plummeting down the order, with just 16 laps to run.
March led the way for the opening half as Burchartz fell to the back end of the top 10, and Wickham down in 12th. Wickham's recovery was aided by an issue forcing Mineeff into the pit lane, and a safety car for Ryan DeBorre, who came to a halt with a suspected driveline failure.
March led the field away at the restart, pressured by Demellweek, with Rio Campbell in the mix. It all came unstuck for the leaders just one lap later, as March and Demellweek each locked up and ran off the track at the first corner, promoting Burchartz back into the lead after a mighty recovery effort.
Wickham also charged back through the field, battling through to third place when Salvatore pulled off the road with a mechanical issue with just three laps remaining, promoting Wickham to second. That is where he would stay as the race ended under the control of the safety car. Demellweek recovered to third ahead of Campbell, while March settled for fifth after leading earlier.
The Australian Formula Ford Championship now has a short turnaround before heading to Phillip Island for its season finale next weekend, October 2-4. Burchartz's dominant weekend brings him right back into the title hunt, with he and Wickham set to battle it out for the championship.

Ruben Dan took his third victory of the weekend in Race 3 on Sunday morning, the first of four remaining races to determine the champion. Despite his best efforts to take the lead on the opening lap, Sam Simpson was forced to settle for second place, having fended off a charge from Dean O'Brien in third. Dylan Thomas came home in fourth to keep his championship hopes alive, while Chais Tippett rounded out the top five.
O'Brien took victory in Race 4 by just 0.08s over Simpson, with Thomas right there in third hoping to pick up the pieces if it all came unstuck for the leaders. Riley Skinner came home in fourth, while Timothy Reed rounded out the top five. Simpson was strong in the opening laps, taking the lead heading into the first corner from a front row start thanks to a bump draft from Thomas.
