A huge surprise at MotorLand Aragon! Marco Bezzecchi delivered a stunning performance to snatch pole position for the 2026 Aragon GP, setting a new lap record of 1:44.962. The Aprilia rider edged out Marc Marquez, who had to settle for second place.
The qualifying session was intense, proving that Marquez is not invincible at his favorite circuit. Bezzecchi, who had already shown strong pace in practice, was consistent and aggressive from the start. He was the only rider to break the 1:45 barrier in both of his time attacks.
Marquez, pushing hard for a third consecutive pole at Aragon, made a mistake on his final run, running wide at Turn 13 and losing crucial time. He fell just one-tenth short of Bezzecchi's time. Meanwhile, Alex Marquez completed the front row in third.
This result shakes up the championship battle. Jorge Martin, the championship leader, will start from fifth, while Francesco Bagnaia could only manage eighth. Bezzecchi now has a golden opportunity to claim his first win of the season and close the gap at the top.
