Marco Bezzecchi lasted less than one lap in front of his home crowd. From pole position, the Aprilia rider launched perfectly, but before completing the first lap, he crashed at Turns 12-13 of the Misano circuit. The incident turned the San Marino GP into a nightmare for the local tifosi.
Bezzecchi's start was electric. He immediately pressured Marc Marquez, who had won the Sprint the day before by exploiting the early laps. This time, however, Bezzecchi took the initiative. But ambition turned to disaster. High speed through the right-hander caused him to lose grip, and he slid into the gravel.
Fortunately, the crash did not worsen his already fragile physical condition. But the mental blow was far deeper. This is Bezzecchi's fifth Sunday zero of the season, following four consecutive DNFs between Balaton and Sachsenring that cost him the championship lead in the summer.
For the #72 rider, Misano was an emotional stage. Aprilia had prepared a special livery honoring Gilles Villeneuve and Vespa, and Bezzecchi wanted to deliver a special result. Instead of a podium, he had to swallow a bitter pill in front of thousands of fans who had cheered for him.
The disappointment was not over. Moments later, the Misano grandstands fell silent again. Francesco Bagnaia, another local hero, also crashed. Two Italian riders expected to shine were forced to watch the race from the sidelines.
With this result, Bezzecchi's chances of rejoining the title fight are increasingly slim. The points lost at Misano could prove costly at season's end. He still has speed, but Sunday consistency remains a major issue. Aprilia must also find a way to make the RS-GP package more race-friendly, especially when riders push to the limit.
The San Marino GP still has many stories to tell, but the spotlight remains on Bezzecchi. From the euphoria of the start to the destruction at Turns 12-13, it all happened in seconds. That's racing: cruel, fast, and unforgiving.
