Marco Bezzecchi stunned the field by topping Friday practice at the 2026 MotoGP San Marino Grand Prix. The Aprilia Racing rider edged out Marc Marquez of Ducati Lenovo by just over a tenth of a second, setting the stage for a thrilling weekend at Misano.
The hour-long Practice session saw Bezzecchi showcase the speed of the RS-GP26, pipping Marquez to the top spot. Alex Marquez on the Gresini Ducati completed the top three, while the VR46 duo of Fabio Di Giannantonio and Franco Morbidelli rounded out the top five, ensuring Ducati's presence at the sharp end despite Bezzecchi's Aprilia breaking their dominance.
Pedro Acosta was the best KTM in sixth, followed by Luca Marini leading the Honda charge in seventh. Johann Zarco slotted into eighth, with Pol Espargaro standing in for the injured Maverick Vinales in ninth. Championship leader Jorge Martin narrowly secured a Q2 spot in tenth.

No Yamahas made it into Q2, and former Misano winner Pecco Bagnaia struggled down in 19th, a disappointing result for the factory Ducati team.
With this outcome, ten riders are guaranteed a place in Q2, while the rest will battle it out in Q1 for the final two spots. Qualifying will determine the grid for Sunday's race.
