Pecco Bagnaia has admitted he is puzzled after comparing his telemetry data with Alex Marquez at the Aragon MotoGP. The vast difference, especially on throttle application, made the two-time world champion feel like he was seeing two different bikes.
Since the start of the season, Pecco Bagnaia has welcomed Ducati's decision to give Alex Marquez a factory-spec bike at Gresini. For him, the extra data from the current championship runner-up is invaluable. He even praised Marquez's performances at Sachsenring and Silverstone, where Bagnaia himself struggled.
However, at Aragon, rear grip issues haunted Bagnaia again. "When I enter corners, I lose the rear without doing anything," he complained on Friday. "As soon as I touch the gas, I lose it. Until the bike is completely straight, I still spin and have a lot of movement."
The result: Bagnaia finished 11th in the Sprint, 14 seconds behind teammate Marc Marquez who won, and Alex who was runner-up. "We can't understand where they managed to find that improvement. It's even difficult to compare the data because there are so many differences, especially when we open the throttle. It's like seeing two different bikes," he said, as quoted by Crash.net.
Bagnaia insisted he will not give up in the remaining races with Ducati before joining Aprilia in 2027. "I'm here to go fast. I'm interested in where I'll be next year, but I'm also interested in the present. And I'm here to do my best, and I'll give it my all," he said. He admitted that the bike's DNA doesn't suit him, but he is determined to keep fighting.
Meanwhile, Fabio di Giannantonio, who also rides the GP26, was forced to retire after a first-lap crash in the Sprint. This result puts Bagnaia under more pressure in the title fight, but he chooses to stay focused on the process.
