Arvid Lindblad has detailed the consequences of his crash in second practice for the Spanish Grand Prix. The Racing Bulls driver lost control at Turn 13, bringing out the red flag, but he walked away unscathed and remains optimistic for the rest of the weekend.
Before the incident, Lindblad had been a surprise pace-setter, placing his car fourth in the qualifying simulations. His speed was consistent, and he felt comfortable with the car. "The speed was good. We were P4 on merit. Every lap we did in FP2, we were fast, so that's the most important thing," he said.
However, disaster struck when he lost control on the entry to Turn 13 and slammed into the barriers. The car sustained heavy damage to the floor, front and rear wings, and suspension. Despite the severity, Lindblad was unhurt. "I'm all right. I feel fine, honestly. It looked quite bad, but actually the impact was not very hard. Charles Leclerc did it in a much more spectacular fashion in Monza," he added with a smile.
The crash forced the Racing Bulls team into extra work. Lindblad apologized to the engineers and mechanics who will have to repair the car overnight. "There's a bit of damage, quite a lot, but nothing that's not repairable. I just apologise to the engineers, but especially the mechanics, because they've got a bit of extra work tonight," he admitted.
Despite missing out on a long run, Lindblad remains optimistic. He pointed out that no one got a proper long run in the session, so the setback is not too costly. "We missed a little bit of the long run, but honestly, no one got a proper long run. So I think we're in a decent place for tomorrow," he explained.
He emphasized that his focus now is on resetting and moving forward. "I'm just going to focus on resetting tonight, trying to block out what happened, and just take the good learnings from today," he concluded.
With FP3 and qualifying still to come, Lindblad and Racing Bulls have time to repair the car and prepare their strategy. His strong performance in FP2 is a valuable asset in the fight for a front-running position in the race.
