The Aragon MotoGP Sprint was marred by chaos on the opening lap. While attention was focused on the fierce battle between Marc Marquez, Alex Marquez, and Marco Bezzecchi at the front, a series of contacts and a crash shook the field behind them.
The first incident involved Joan Mir and Enea Bastianini, who started 15th and 16th respectively. Mir reported, "Enea hit me in corner three, and I went into the run-off area. In that corner, you lose a lot of time if you go out." Mir, who recovered to 16th, admitted his race changed completely from that moment. Once he had clean air, he was able to lap at 47.4 seconds on the penultimate lap. "That's top-eight pace. That was the maximum I could do today," he added.
Bastianini was involved in another contact a few corners later, this time with Franco Morbidelli. "The start was not so bad, but when I tried to overtake Franco, he came to me... there was contact," said the Ducati rider. He also mentioned that Luca Marini crashed behind him. Bastianini admitted the middle part of the race was quite fast, but his front tyre dropped and he lost positions, finishing 14th. Morbidelli, who completed the opening lap in 19th, described the early action as "a big mess". "I got contact in Turn 5, then went wide in Turn 12. After that, I struggled to come back," he complained.
Meanwhile, Marini confirmed his crash happened without contact. "I crashed by myself between turns five and six. It was quite a hard fall, and I have some pain at the moment, but no major issues. We will rest now and see what's possible on Sunday," he explained.
These incidents add to the long list of drama at Aragon. With many riders losing positions in the opening lap, the sprint result clearly impacts strategies for the main race. Crews now have to work extra to ensure bikes are ready, while riders hope to avoid first-lap controversies tomorrow.
