Alpine has confirmed that Franco Colapinto will remain as their race driver for the 2027 season. This decision locks in the team's driver line-up, with Colapinto set to partner Pierre Gasly for a third consecutive year.
The announcement comes after an impressive showing from Colapinto throughout the 2026 season. The Argentine driver has scored 19 points from the 12 rounds held so far, with six points finishes. That puts him 12th in the drivers' standings.
This season has been a testament to Colapinto's growth. He started the year with a 10th place in China, then improved to seventh in Miami, and recorded his best result with sixth at the Canadian Grand Prix. This consistent performance convinced Alpine's executive advisor, Flavio Briatore, to retain Colapinto.

Briatore emphasized that consistency is key for the team. "We are very happy to confirm our driver line-up for 2027 with Franco staying as a race driver alongside Pierre," he said. "For me, having consistency is very important. We are now settled from a driver point of view, and our number one priority is designing and building a fast race car."
Briatore also praised Colapinto's maturity on track. "We have seen Franco truly grow and mature into a great driver this year. His results in Miami and Montreal especially confirmed what I already knew: Franco belongs in Formula One and he belongs at this team."
Colapinto himself welcomed the decision. "I am very pleased to remain with this team in 2027," he said. "I feel very happy and very settled here, and it's been even better that we have made significant progress this year compared to last. Our long-term goals are obvious – to compete and win – and I am grateful to the team, Flavio, and Steve for the trust placed in me."
Colapinto's Journey in Formula 1
Colapinto made his F1 debut with Williams in 2024, replacing Logan Sargeant and scoring five points. He then joined Alpine as a reserve driver in 2025, before being promoted to a race seat replacing Jack Doohan at the sixth round in Imola. The 2025 season was tough for Alpine, with Colapinto and Doohan failing to score points. However, the major regulation changes in 2026 proved to be a turning point. Now, Alpine sits sixth in the constructors' standings, with Colapinto and Gasly often scoring double points. Gasly has contributed 44 points, while Colapinto has 19.
