Fernando Alonso had to endure an incredible struggle during the United States Grand Prix after his AMR26 car suffered massive structural damage following a first-lap incident. The Spanish driver fell victim to an overly ambitious overtaking attempt by Alexander Albon, who rammed into the left side of his car at Austin and left critical aerodynamic components completely shattered.
Despite the heavily compromised aerodynamic setup, the two-time world champion refused to retire to the pits. With sheer determination, he continued to pilot his crippled machine all the way to the checkered flag, ultimately crossing the line in 16th place—ironically right ahead of Albon—while finishing a lap down race winner Antonelli.
Recently, the Aston Martin team revealed the true extent of the damage inflicted on the veteran's car. Pedro de la Rosa, former F1 driver and team ambassador, shared visual documentation on his social media profile exposing the grim state of the car that the Oviedo veteran somehow managed to bring home.

The images clearly showed that half of the floor, various aerodynamic deflectors, and multiple bargeboards on the left side were completely destroyed. De la Rosa praised the extraordinary feat accomplished by Alonso, noting that considering half the floor was missing, the pace shown throughout the grand prix was nothing short of surprising.
This grueling battle in Texas further cements Alonso's status as the backbone of the Silverstone-based squad this season. He remains the sole driver responsible for securing all seven points for Aston Martin in the constructors' standings, while maintaining a two-point advantage over Albon in the drivers' championship.
