Norris was happy with the McLaren strategy call

McLaren driver Lando Norris has firmly clarified any speculation regarding internal friction over the strategy deployed by his team during the Formula 2025 United States Grand Prix. Starting the 56-lap race at the Circuit of the Americas from eighth on the grid on the fourth row after suffering a lap-time deletion in Q3, the world champion fought tenaciously to ultimately cross the chequered flag in fifth place.

A critical strategic gamble was executed by the Woking-based outfit, committing to a challenging one-stop strategy throughout the grueling grand prix. Meanwhile, formidable competitors including Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and Lewis Hamilton opted for what proved to be the preferred two-stop strategy, enabling them to hunt down the McLaren in the latter stages on significantly fresher rubber.

According to Motorsport Week, immense pressure mounted as the hard compound tyres began to suffer severe degradation towards the end of the race. The age disadvantage of the tyres made defensive maneuvers extremely difficult as rivals approached with superior pace on the long straights of the Austin circuit.

Addressing his tense radio transmissions during the race where he asked to be left alone to drive, the British driver emphasized that there was no genuine disagreement with the pit wall. He praised the overall execution by the engineering team and noted that staying out on the worn hard tyres was a calculated risk that ultimately delivered a respectable points finish.
