Alex Marquez strengthened his position among MotoGP’s all-time Sprint winners after claiming victory in the 2026 Catalunya Sprint by just 0.041 seconds over Pedro Acosta.
The dramatic Barcelona success marked Marquez’s first Sprint victory of the season and the sixth of his career since the MotoGP Sprint format was introduced at the beginning of the 2023 campaign.
Since Sprint races became a permanent Saturday feature during grand prix weekends, only ten riders have managed to win a half-distance MotoGP race. Across that period, three names have dominated the statistics: Jorge Martin, Marc Marquez, and Francesco Bagnaia.

Martin currently leads the all-time Sprint victory rankings with 18 wins, narrowly ahead of Marc Marquez on 17 victories. Bagnaia remains third overall with 13 Sprint successes.
From a competitive perspective, MotoGP Sprint races continue to play a major role in the championship battle due to the half-points system, which regularly creates significant shifts in the standings throughout the season.
Although Sprint races are not officially recognised as grand prix victories, the format still awards valuable points, with 12 points for victory, nine for second place, and seven for third.
Marquez’s Barcelona victory also became one of the most important Sprint wins of his career as it arrived amid the increasingly intense battle between Ducati, KTM, and Aprilia throughout the 2026 season.
Meanwhile, Acosta remains MotoGP’s newest Sprint winner after the KTM rider secured his maiden Sprint victory at the 2026 season opener in Buriram.
With growing consistency aboard the Gresini Ducati, Alex Marquez is now continuing to strengthen his reputation as one of the most competitive Sprint specialists on the modern MotoGP grid.
