The dramatic conclusion to Rally Sardinia has set the stage for an intense future battle in the World Rally Championship, with Adrien Fourmaux openly laying down a title challenge to Oliver Solberg. The championship fight went right down to the final metres of the rally's ultimate stage in a truly unforgettable showdown.
Toyota's Oliver Solberg appeared to have one hand firmly on the championship trophy before a late driving error just moments before the finish shattered his nerves. Adrien Fourmaux admitted he and others were watching closely, fully expecting a heavy roll that might have elevated him onto the podium.
Despite the heart-stopping moment, Oliver Solberg managed to wrangle the car back under control and reach the finish line to secure the rally victory. "That was quite something, absolutely crazy. We were all watching. I thought he was going to roll and I was going to be on the podium," Adrien Fourmaux recalled.

The ultimate title glory went to Elfyn Evans, who captured his career-first world championship crown. Meanwhile, Adrien Fourmaux finished fifth in the WRC standings, just six points behind Sebastien Ogier, while successfully holding off fellow competitors like Takamoto Katsuta and Thierry Neuville.
Reflecting on his campaign, the Hyundai driver feels proud of the strong car improvements made throughout the year. Having learned from the unnecessary pressure of chasing his maiden victory, Adrien Fourmaux is now putting that pursuit behind him to build a future firmly aimed at becoming world champion.
