Zandvoort, 22:01 local time — As dark clouds loomed over the circuit, Lando Norris stayed ice-cool to snatch pole position for the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix with a 1:11.163 lap, edging out George Russell by just 0.102s. The frantic end to Q3 came as rain threatened, forcing drivers to push hard before the track turned slippery.

Norris, who had earlier crashed in FP1, showed his mental strength by delivering when it mattered most. This marks his second pole of the season and a huge statement to his rivals. Meanwhile, Russell had to settle for P2, but a front-row start is still a valuable asset for Sunday's race.

The drama didn't end there. Kimi Antonelli impressed by putting his Mercedes third, ahead of Oscar Piastri in fourth. But the boldest move came from Lewis Hamilton, who gambled by staying in the pits as rain began to fall, then went out in the final seconds to snatch P5. Ferrari had reasons to smile, though Charles Leclerc could only manage P6.

Meanwhile, another nightmare unfolded for Max Verstappen. The defending champion could only qualify seventh, far from the expectations of the home crowd. His Red Bull teammate Liam Lawson fared slightly better, taking P8. The pressure is now mounting on Red Bull, who continue to struggle amid McLaren and Mercedes' dominance this season.

This result reshuffles the competitive order. With rain having threatened, strategy and bravery were the differentiators. Norris and Russell will lead the pack, while Antonelli is ready to be a dark horse. Can Verstappen fight back in front of his own fans? The 2026 Dutch GP is set to be a thriller.
