Rally, Sportrik Media - Elfyn Evans of Toyota Gazoo Racing delivered the fastest time on SS10 of Rally Canary Islands 2026 as unexpected rain transformed stage conditions and reshaped the competitive order.
The Arucas – Firgas – Teror 1 stage, covering nearly 14 kilometers, introduced the first significant weather variable of the rally. Light rainfall altered the asphalt surface, reducing grip levels—particularly in the latter sections—and forcing drivers to rapidly adapt their driving approach, braking points, and traction management.
Evans executed the most effective run under the evolving conditions, setting the benchmark time. He outpaced Oliver Solberg by 2.5 seconds and Sebastien Ogier by 4.4 seconds, continuing his upward trajectory after a strong start to Saturday.

“The road became really slippery towards the end of the stage. The beginning was quite good, but conditions changed quickly,” Evans explained at the finish.
Ogier, who retained the overall rally lead, acknowledged that the conditions imposed a clear performance ceiling. The reduced grip levels made further gains effectively unattainable.
“It’s impossible to go any faster in these conditions, that’s clear,” Ogier stated.
Meanwhile, Sami Pajari experienced a significant setback. He lost 12.3 seconds to Evans on the stage, dropping further away from the podium battle. Pajari was also beaten on the stage by Takamoto Katsuta and Adrien Fourmaux, reflecting the difficulty in extracting performance under changing grip conditions.
“It was difficult. Maybe I should have pushed a bit more,” Pajari admitted, highlighting the fine margins required in such variable environments.
In the overall standings, Ogier’s lead narrowed to 5.4 seconds over Solberg. Evans strengthened his position in third, now 10.3 seconds off the lead, while Pajari dropped to 26.1 seconds behind. Takamoto Katsuta remains fifth, maintaining Toyota’s complete control of the top five positions.
Within Hyundai Motorsport, Adrien Fourmaux, Dani Sordo, and Thierry Neuville continue in sixth, seventh, and eighth respectively, all trailing the leaders by over a minute.
With four stages remaining on Saturday, evolving weather conditions are expected to remain a decisive factor. Tyre selection strategy and the ability to adapt to low-grip asphalt will be critical in determining the outcome heading into the final day.
