Charles Leclerc won the 2026 British Grand Prix at Silverstone after surviving strategy pressure, penalties and late-race chaos that reshaped the podium fight.
The victory was the ninth of Leclerc's Formula 1 career and his first since the 2024 United States Grand Prix. For Ferrari, it was also the team's second win of the 2026 season and one of its most important results of the early title phase.
Leclerc took control from the opening lap when Kimi Antonelli failed to match Ferrari's rapid launch and slipped to third before the first corner. Lewis Hamilton also moved ahead of the Mercedes driver, putting Ferrari first and second in the early running.

Hamilton's own victory bid was then damaged by a five-second penalty after the stewards judged that he moved before the start lights went out. That punishment changed the pit-stop calculation and later cost him position to George Russell during the strategy phase.
Antonelli became Leclerc's biggest threat after running an offset strategy and stopping later. He emerged from his Lap 35 pit stop 7.5 seconds behind Leclerc, with fresher tyres and the pace to reduce the gap in the closing phase.
That pressure ended when Antonelli suffered a major technical problem on his Mercedes. His car lost performance, he went off several times, and a five-second penalty ensured he fell down the order and failed to score points, dealing a major blow to his title position.
The drama increased when Max Verstappen spun at Turn 15 in the closing laps, triggering a safety car. Race control initially appeared set to restart the race for one final lap, but that decision was reversed and the grand prix finished behind the safety car.
Russell ultimately finished second after benefiting from the late sequence, while Hamilton completed the podium in third, although he remained under investigation for an alleged yellow flag infringement. Lando Norris was fourth, followed by Isack Hadjar, Liam Lawson, Arvid Lindblad, Gabriel Bortoleto, Franco Colapinto and Pierre Gasly in the top 10.
Leclerc's win marked a major turning point after Ferrari showed strong progress throughout the Silverstone weekend. For Antonelli and Verstappen, the race carried heavy championship consequences, with attention now shifting to how Mercedes and Red Bull respond after losing crucial points opportunities.
