Davide Brivio admitted he was concerned during the closing stages of the MotoGP Jerez 2026 race as Trackhouse Racing riders Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez went head-to-head in a direct intra-team battle. Despite fighting for a top-five position rather than a podium, the situation raised strategic risks for the team.

The race at Jerez highlighted contrasting performance profiles between the two riders. Fernandez delivered a strong launch phase, gaining positions early with aggressive pace and front-end grip, but experienced a drop in performance in the latter stages. In contrast, Ogura managed his race with a progressive approach, improving lap times toward the end after starting further down the order.

Their trajectories converged in the final laps as Fernandez began to lose ground while Ogura steadily closed the gap. Both riders overtook Johann Zarco within a short window before engaging in a direct fight. At that point, Ogura’s superior late-race pace, supported by better tyre preservation, allowed him to gain the upper hand over his teammate.

From a technical standpoint, the duel reflected differing setup philosophies. Fernandez appeared to prioritise initial grip and early-race track position, which likely accelerated rear tyre degradation over race distance. Ogura, meanwhile, adopted a more balanced configuration, enabling consistent traction delivery and improved stability as fuel loads decreased and tyre wear became critical.

Brivio acknowledged that the shrinking gap between his riders triggered concern over a potential intra-team incident. While he underlined Ogura’s race intelligence and decision-making, the risk factor remained significant given the narrow layout of Jerez, where overtaking opportunities are limited and margins for error are minimal.

Despite the tension, the outcome delivered valuable points for the team. Both riders secured top-six finishes, underlining the effectiveness of their recovery strategy following a less-than-ideal qualifying session. Trackhouse maximised race execution under dry conditions, extracting competitive performance from its package.

In the championship standings, Fernandez now holds sixth place while Ogura sits eighth, with both riders positioned around race winner Alex Marquez. The result reinforces Trackhouse’s position as a competitive independent team, with consistency and race management set to remain key factors heading into the next round.
