New Zealand GT ace Brendon Leitch has officially joined Team Kiwi Racing for the Super2 round at Bathurst. This marks a major step for Leitch, who has been synonymous with GT racing, but he is ready to prove his mettle on the legendary Mount Panorama circuit.
The opportunity came after Leitch underwent an evaluation at Winton alongside Chris Pither and Brent Collins. The evaluation, delayed by bad weather, went positively, and Leitch was entrusted with the ex-Erebus Motorsport Holden ZB Commodore carrying the iconic #021. The car looks striking in TKR's black and white livery.
For Leitch, racing at Bathurst is a dream come true. He can't hide his excitement, especially representing a team synonymous with New Zealand pride. "I'm really proud to join Team Kiwi Racing. This is a chance to race a Supercar at Bathurst, in front of tens of thousands of fans, and fly the Kiwi flag," he said.

Leitch also recalled growing up idolizing TKR drivers like Shane van Gisbergen, Paul Radisich, and Craig Baird. "I remember watching Radisich and Bairdo at Bathurst. When Shane drove for the team in 2007, that was when I was thinking about moving from karts to cars," he reminisced.
Despite limited Supercars experience, Leitch is optimistic. He took pole position at Bathurst on his GT World Challenge Australia debut in 2024 and has two Bathurst 12 Hour starts. "I know I haven't got as much experience in this particular car, but there's no reason we can't get good results. Pole a couple of years ago proved I know my way around," he asserted.
Team owner David John emphasized that Leitch was chosen based on talent and attitude, not financial backing. "In TKR's 26-year history, we've always given Kiwi drivers opportunities to show what they're made of. We pride ourselves on picking drivers based on talent, not who brings money," John said.
With full support from the team, Leitch is ready for the biggest challenge of his career at Bathurst. Can he spring a surprise? We'll find out on track.
