MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Alex Marquez reinforced his status as a pre-race favourite after setting the fastest time in the warm-up session for the 2026 Spanish MotoGP at Jerez.
Following Saturday’s rain-affected Sprint, riders were greeted by dry and sunny conditions for the ten-minute warm-up, offering a clearer indication of expected race pace for the full-distance grand prix.
The Gresini Racing rider had led the Sprint before crashing due to worsening conditions, but once again demonstrated strong pace. He had also been identified as a leading contender for Sunday’s race by his brother, Marc Marquez, who won the Sprint.

Alex Marquez finished the session just ahead of Marc Marquez, while Fabio Di Giannantonio completed an all-Ducati top three.
Marco Bezzecchi, the current championship leader, placed fourth, followed by fellow Aprilia Racing rider Raul Fernandez in fifth. KTM’s Enea Bastianini rounded out the top six.
Most riders opted for medium tyres at both the front and rear, indicating a focus on stability and consistency for the race under expected dry conditions.
Several riders will carry penalties into Sunday’s grand prix. Joan Mir must serve a double long lap penalty for ignoring black-and-orange flags in practice, while Toprak Razgatlioglu has a single long lap penalty following his Sprint collision with Lorenzo Savadori.
Notably, the top three riders in the championship standings — Bezzecchi, Jorge Martin, and Pedro Acosta — all failed to score in Saturday’s rain-disrupted Sprint.
Bezzecchi is aiming for a sixth consecutive grand prix victory, a run that began at Portimao late in 2025, and he has also led the last 121 race laps heading into this weekend.
Meanwhile, Martin faces an additional challenge after receiving a three-place grid penalty, dropping him to tenth on the starting grid.
From a technical perspective, the weekend also features wildcard entries from Augusto Fernandez with Yamaha and Savadori for Aprilia, both making their first appearances of the season.
Maverick Vinales remains absent following shoulder surgery and has not been replaced, while an official post-race test is scheduled at Jerez on Monday.
