Ogura's Fitness Concerns
Following a shoulder injury from a crash at the British GP that sidelined him for two races, Ogura returned at the San Marino GP with a 17th-place finish. He admits to ongoing discomfort, particularly during braking. “My shoulder still bothers me, especially under heavy braking,” Ogura revealed. Consequently, this could impact his adaptation to the new RC213V Honda machine.
Nevertheless, Ogura stays positive. A visit to Honda's Sakura headquarters in Japan boosted his spirits. “I’m grateful for the team and fans’ support,” he said. Thus, he plans to manage the pain and gradually build confidence throughout the weekend.
Pressure as the Home Rider
The Japan MotoGP debut carries emotional weight for Ogura, who has raced in Moto2 until now. “Racing at home is exciting, but the expectations from fans create significant pressure,” he explained. The enthusiastic Japanese crowd, including the Honda facility tour, amplifies both motivation and apprehension.
Moreover, Ogura recognizes the leap from Moto2 to MotoGP. “The MotoGP bike is faster and demands quick adaptation, especially on a technical track like Motegi,” he added. Therefore, he emphasizes starting practice sessions cautiously to avoid further injury risks.
Adaptation Strategy with Honda Team
Joining the LCR Honda team as a rookie, Ogura collaborates with teammate Johann Zarco to exchange insights. “I’m learning a lot from team data and advice,” he stated. The main focus is optimizing suspension and electronics setups to match his riding style.
With six races left in the 2025 season, Ogura views the Japan GP as a foundation-building opportunity. “I’m not expecting instant results, but consistency is key,” he noted. Honda supports him with an intensive recovery program, including specialized shoulder physiotherapy.
Outlook for 2025 Japan MotoGP
The Motegi event promises a charged atmosphere with full backing for Ogura. Despite fitness hurdles and pressure, he is determined to perform at his peak. “This is a dream come true, and I’ll fight as hard as I can,” Ogura concluded. The race marks a historic debut for a Japanese rider in the premier class, paving the way for future MotoGP success.
