Entering the second edition of the championship format first introduced last season, Supercars splits its calendar into three distinct phases: the Sprint Cup, the Enduro Cup, and the title-deciding Finals Series. Heading into 2026, several regulatory tweaks and point weightings have been implemented to ramp up the championship tension on the track.

Colloquially known as the regular season, the Sprint Cup spans the first nine rounds from Sydney to Ipswich. At the conclusion of these rounds, the driver accumulating the most points claims the Sprint Cup and earns automatic entry into the Finals Series, regardless of their Enduro Cup performance. The Sprint Cup victor also secures 25 bonus points for the opening round of the Finals at the Gold Coast 500. For the 2026 campaign, Triple Eight driver Broc Feeney clinched the Sprint Cup after a dramatic battle against Grove Racing's Matt Payne.

The action then shifts to the Enduro Cup, contested across The Bend 500 and the Bathurst 1000. The highest points scorer across these endurance classics claims the Enduro Cup, a Finals Series ticket, and another 25-point bonus. Triple Eight's Will Brown claimed the 2026 Ryco Enduro Cup crown following strong fourth and second-place finishes at The Bend and Bathurst respectively.

A total of 10 drivers contest the Finals Series, with guaranteed spots reserved for the Sprint Cup and Enduro Cup winners, while the remaining grid slots are filled based on overall points standings after Bathurst. The Finals unfold across Gold Coast, Sandown, and Adelaide events, with contenders steadily eliminated along the way. A key change for 2026 sees increased bonus points between Sandown and Adelaide, where the points leader leaving Sandown now enters Adelaide with 150 bonus points, while second receives 120, third gets 96, and fourth takes 78.

Another notable adjustment dictates that eliminated Finals Series drivers now revert to the points they finished with after the Bathurst 1000 plus whatever they accrue at subsequent rounds, meaning eliminated contenders can potentially be overtaken in the standings by drivers who missed the initial finals cut.
