MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Marc Marquez, Ducati rider, acknowledges the challenge of maintaining his 14-race win streak at the 2025 Catalan MotoGP. Unbeaten since Silverstone in May, Marquez considers the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit one of his weakest, with only two victories in 11 MotoGP appearances.
Challenges at Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit
Marquez admitted that the Montmelo circuit demands extra effort to compete at the top. “Every year at Montmelo, I need to work harder than at other tracks to reach the top level,” he said during Thursday’s press conference. Despite this, racing at home fuels his drive to maximize points. “It’s one of my worst circuits, but being a home Grand Prix gives me extra motivation,” he added.
The circuit poses a challenge due to strong rivals, including his brother Alex Marquez, who outperformed him in qualifying last season with Gresini. Francesco Bagnaia, winner of the last two Barcelona races, and Aprilia with Aleix Espargaro’s consistent pace, also threaten his dominance. “Maybe it’s time to stop this win streak. We’ll fight for the top,” Marquez noted.
Ducati’s Edge and Title Prospects
Marquez recalled last season’s post-race test in Barcelona as a turning point in recognizing the Ducati GP25’s potential. “Before the test, I knew this was the bike and place to fight for the title,” he said. The test highlighted the GP25’s improvements over the GP23, particularly on straights. Leading Alex by 175 points in the championship, Marquez could clinch his first Ducati title at Misano if he outscores his brother by at least 10 points this weekend.
Marquez’s success has positioned Ducati to secure the 2025 constructors’ title in Barcelona. His runner-up finish to Bagnaia in last November’s race, despite riding the less competitive GP23, signals his potential for a strong showing this weekend.
Outlook for Catalan MotoGP
Though Barcelona isn’t his strongest track, Marquez is confident he can compete in the leading group. His focus remains on consistency and capitalizing on the home crowd’s energy. With a well-performing team and the competitive GP25, Marquez aims to extend his dominance but remains realistic about the fierce competition from Bagnaia and Aprilia.
Looking ahead, the Barcelona results will be crucial for Marquez’s and Ducati’s title aspirations. This weekend will reveal whether he can overcome Montmelo’s challenges to sustain his winning streak.
