The season-ending WorldSBK weekend at the Circuito de Jerez - Angel Nieto kicked off with high drama and intense racing action in the World Sportbike class. Xavi Artigas triumphed in a nail-biting Race 1 on Saturday afternoon, narrowly edging out his rivals in a thrilling finish.
Disaster struck even before the race officially got underway during the warm-up lap. A Turn 1 crash involving Jeffrey Buis, Julian Correa, and Fenton Seabright ruled all three contenders out of the starting grid. Buis suffered a right shoulder dislocation in the incident and was declared unfit by the Medical Centre, forcing him to miss the remainder of the weekend.
Once the lights went out, an action-packed battle for victory unfolded on the asphalt. Alvaro Fuertes led the opening lap before David Salvador took over, but Artigas seized the initiative by lap six. Salvador later tumbled down to 22nd place following a hard contact with Carter Thompson at Turn 13.

Artigas held his ground under immense pressure to secure the victory by a mere 0.096 seconds ahead of Belgium's Ferre Fleerackers, who claimed his second podium finish of the season. Alvaro Fuertes rounded out the podium positions ahead of Jose Osuna and Antonio Torres.
Further back on the grid, Jurrien van Crugten delivered a remarkable recovery drive. Despite struggling with the aftermath of his Superpole crash, he charged from 31st on the grid to cross the finish line in a commendable 13th position, while Indi Schunselaar finished 21st.
